In Between @ La Notte Film Night
On 24 November, Arab Film Festival will screen one of the audience’s favorite movies during the La Notte Film Night: In Between (Bar Bahar). La Notte Film Night is a film festival that features unusual films from different non-mainstream film festivals, such as ours, Camera Japan Festival and the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival.
BAR BAHAR/In Between is an intriguing, feminine portrait of the culture clash that takes place daily in the streets of the Israeli city of Tel Aviv. The story focuses on Leila, Salma and Noor, three women sharing an apartment. The first is a warring, freed-up advocate, the second a Christian, lesbian DJ and the third a pious, brave muslim that is already suppressed by her future husband before her marriage. Filmmaker Hamoud confronts her main characters with the constraints and prejudices of the conservative, religious society in which they grew up but never presents them as victims. The power of the film is that Hamoud knows the obvious paths, and instead investigates escape options with her characters – if any. The night life in Tel Aviv is one of them. The city on the Mediterranean coast is just as good one of the main characters in BAR BAHAR.
