And the winner is…


The Arab Film Festival granted 4 awards during its closing ceremony.

The best feature film award was granted to the film “Fires” from Mohamad Abdulaziz. This Syrian filmmaker couldn’t make it for the festival, but attended our festival last year. Last year he won the prize for best feature film too.

The best short film award was granted to “Cargo” from Karim Rahbani. With this short, the Lebanese Rahbani plunges us into the harsh reality of Syrian refugees.

This year’s audience award was granted to the film “A Day for Women”. Star actress Elham Shahin from Egypt wwas present at the festival, so she had the honour to receive the award for her film in person.

The Arab Film Festival also organized the second edition of its screenwriting lab for shorts this year, in cooperation with Cinephilia Productions from New York. During this intensive 10-day workshop emerging filmmakers from the MENA region further developed their short films. The award for best screenplay was granted to Muhammad Refaat for his short “A Chained Prey”.
